Stock rear-end question
Stock rear-end question
I have a 94Z M6 and run high 12's on street tires with a stock rear-end and axles. I want to put slicks or drag radials on, but afraid of hooking real hard and braking something in the rear-end. Should I worry about that with just running in the 12’s. Or would getting a TA girdle with the slicks be enough protection? Thanks
a stock 10 bolt is really hit or miss. i know people who blow them up running 13s and others who's have held together running 11s. it has a lot to do with what rpm you launch from. gm bean counters and their tiny rear in a high hp car..........
Im running 28 inch et streets on my stock rear it hasnt gone yet even with a few nitrous launches but its days are numbered.im fabbing a 9 inch for it and should be done soon.Usually the stock carier goes first, and even if you upgrade that you have the small ring gear and pinion shaft to worry about next.Girdle might help a little but its enevitable with slicks its gonna go.
I have seen the pinion shaft from a 12 bolt and it doesn't look any thicker or bigger than the 10 bolt. I guess what I wanted to know was if anyone has a stock 10 bolt with a girdle, running some high hp.
It isnt even close to the same size as a twelve bolt ,and like I said with slick or drag radials your stock rear even with the girdle has a limited shelf life.I have run two before and broke both, even with a spool and girdle The first time I took out 5 teeth on the ring gear and the second one snapped the head off of the pinion.I have a girdle on my ta's rear now and after 15 runs at the track its now starting to get loud indicating that im starting to tear somthing up in there.I just ran a 12.01 on the motor so I think that qualifies as a high horsepower motor with slicks.
