stock PM rods w/ARP bolts (balance ?)
I know it's not an LT1, but there are more hits here
As some of you may or may not know, Scat recently discontinued their 5140 rods and now run just the 4340's. I have my HT383 engine apart, and anyone who is familiar with GM crate motors knows that this motor is odd...3.8" stroke 4340 Cola crank, 5.7 studded PM rods, std. 18cc dish hyperutectic pistons in a 4 bolt roller block. I picked a shortblock up for a song that lost a piston skirt...rest of the engine intact except a couple of damaged (severely gouged) pistons that were replaced and the rod which was twisted. I feel safer replacing both, but now the question is if I should upgrade. I plan on using an XE236/242 cam on LT1 heads and intake, Lloyd Elliott ported, rev kit, windage tray, compression up to 11:1 (from 9.3:1), all which is or will be installed in a new block.
Are there any aftermarket forgings that are available that are close in weight to PM rods so they can be weight matched to the originals? I plan on keeping revs no higher than 6200 tops, as well as using it on the street for the most part.

I weighed my stock LT1 PM rods and they weighed 608gms. You should be able to find a set of rods that is close to the same weight. I think GM makes 2 differant P/M rods though, so I would weigh yours and then look for a match.
Good luck,
