Stock piston/rod weight??

Anyone know what the stockers weigh? Together, or seperate...doesn't matter. Whatever you have!

Thanks man!

What are you calling "GM Forged"? The early year LT1 rods?

Yeah - the early traditional forgings with the balance pad on the big end.

Re: Stock piston/rod weight??

Do you know what kind of rod this is? It is ~.070 thicker than a stock rod from a 93 LT1(on the bottom). Has different markings too. Came out of an LT1, but the guy said it was an "upgrade" from the stock 94 rods.

Stock 93 on the bottom

93s I think got "pink" rods(70s LT-1 rods) where later LT1s got the stronger powdered metal.

I'm not gonna give up!

Someone at least tell me I'm an idiot for thinking someone could identify a rod by looking at pics of it!

I'll give it a try.
That's not a stock LT1 rod from any year.
It's a cheaper aftermarket replacement of unknown source.
My guess.

Dam, now add in the weight of the stock pin and you have some mass floating around out there. One reason why the aftermarket stuff and stock LS1 stuff lives longer at higher RPM. Last time I checked the LS1 stock piston was 410g range with a 160g pin, while the rod was in the same ballpark as the LT1 rod. Thats a ton less mass right there! Makes it easy to twist a motor higher on a stock crank when all the parts are lightened up.

92-94 LT1 rods stink, they have the slimmer beam (as shown in the photo).

The thicker rod you have shown looks like the early style Pink rods, but without the look of a GM factory rod, I'll bet they are some "Renegade" or "Cat" type companys rod.

for not being a stock rod a lot of us 93 guys have the same rods in there, there just stock early GM forged rods.

It says "GM" on it! See it on the rod?
