stock oil pan baffle

I've got a 383 LT1 shortblock with a clearanced stock oil pan. It does not have the baffle in it like the stock pan did. I'm assuming the stock baffle won't fit with the 383 rotating assembly and I should just run without it? I'd check the fit myself but I've already got the engine in the car (for the most part).

Thanks,
Rob

Cool

I dont' have a windage tray on my 350 and I haven't had a single oiling problem after about 2,000 miles. Oil pressure never fluctuates or anything...

Guess I should also mention this is my daily driver for the most part. I drive hard on the road and run 1/4 mile every once in a while. No roadracing or autocross though.

I dont think there would be a problem but you are probably losing some HP do to all that oil flying around.

Windage+ stroker=problems.

I have a Canton pan. It fits like crap but I don't have a windage problem. If you are doing a stroker don't skimp on the little things to protect your investment. A good oil pan is kind of like having an updated virus protection program on your computer.

You removed the oil pan baffle, or the windage tray? Two different items.

I didn't remove anything. I ordered a shortblock from Nu-tek and the oil pan that came with it looked just like mine, except it had been clearanced for the 3.75" stroke on the bottom and sides.

With the oil pan off, on a stock engine, you can see a flat plate that is bolted to the oil pump/pickup assemby. This plate fits between the oil pickup and the crank. The GM manual calls this a "baffle". The assembly I got from Nu-tek did not have this and I assumed it was because it wouldn't work with the increased stroke. My question is, is this the way it should be or was I supposed to remove the baffle from my stock setup and install it on the new setup?

Thanks,
Rob

FYI,

This "baffle" also bolts to the center main caps.

I heard back from Nick.....this won't work with the additional stroke so don't use it.

Thanks,
Rob

Hmm this is interesting. With my stroker we are going to be using a milodon windage tray seen here . We test fitted the one we had laying around on the block and everything fit good. This would replace the stock flat piece you are talking about. The other flat piece thats welded to the inside of the pan may need to be removed or just clearanced.

Just thought I bring this back up to the top. Has anyone used an aftermarket windage tray?

Is the canton one built into the pan?

I would recommend a screen style windage tray with a scrapper plate. Summit or jegs can supply it.
