Stock LT1 intake a bottleneck for AFR 195's?

Was talking to a CompCams cam help dude today and when I was disussing the possibility of going a little bigger on my cam and/or getting the AFR 195's, he made the comment that the AFR 195's would be a waste since the stock LT1 intake would be choking it. Was he right or full of it?

Well, from what I hear the stocker is pretty darn good, plus in 15 years they have made 1 aftermarket intake, so.

Do some RESEARCH on actual results and you will be hard pressed to find much of anything impressive from the small AFRs. People say they are good but nobody ever backs it up with results, I would love too see some.

For a streetable 383 ported LT1 castings are plenty capable.

On the intake thing the Comp "tech" and I use that term very loosly is just applying what he thinks he knows about every other motor out there, as was already pointed out the stocker is pretty good. Lingenfelter and Edelbrock both failed to improve it in the 90s and Edelbrock only looked at it again after the LT4 intake went away leaving an opening for those and a potential monopoly for them. Their LT4 intakes have begun too ship but not the LT1s even so if those do ever ship they are talking single digit gains 3-7hp depending what person you got ahold of.

I'm guessing he's one of those dumbasses that doesn't know the difference between an LT1 intake and a TPI intake.

I have a converted LT1 intake for a sbc gen 1 block.
I just received my AFR 195 eliminators on tuesday.

I am trying to find out the exact same question.

Does anyone know what a LT1 intake can flow in CFM??
Then from there I will know from the flow of the heads which is the bottle neck.

I do know that the LT1 intake and the mini-ram are very similar, and nobody can accuse the MR of being a bottle neck.

As long as you get the intake port matched to the heads you will be fine.

Seeing as NHRA stock eliminator cars go mid 10's with a stock intake, Ai has a car running 9.90's with a stock intake.............they are fairly good.

AFR 195's are ok, but I would have ported the stockers in their place, Ai makes a 200cc stock casting.Anything over that got with a "converted" head or a BIG AFR or Trickflow etc.

I will say the jury is still out on the new "eliminator" heads as there is no real world testing of those yet.
Anyone who buys them should NOT consider them an automatic upgrade but should consider themselves a guinea pig.
Same with the Edelbrock stuff, they have released numbers of 3-7hp from the LT1 intake and that is their marketting department talking.
The LT4 intake if it has larger ports that more closely match the LT4 heads thasn does the GM LT4 intake may actually be an improvement as cast but I strongly doubt it will outdo a ported GM intake.

The biggest drawback to the stock intake is runner length.
The stock heads and intake ported can make plenty of power.
