Stock lt1 cam specs want to do some compariing

I want to upgrade cam but want something that is subtle no lopey idle.I know lingenfelter makes a nice cam for the ls1 called the gt2-3.I am not sure how his lt1 cams are .I am even thinking of the lt4 cam,not lt4 hot cam also.I plan on mild heads like stage 1 and maybe some mac headers, possibly spray.
I am just not into lopey cams anymore.

So what are the stock specs and if any of you guys have one of these milder cams would like to hear about it,especially the lingenfelter lt1 cams or the lt4 non hot cam.

The best source for information on small cams is the Impala SS crowd. They
have a lot more installs of the smaller cams like the Crane 227, GM 845, etc.

http://impalassforum.com/cgi-bin/ult...1;DaysPrune=30

I have the Crane 227 and am very pleased with it's performance. It idles a bit
different than the stock cam, but it's not lopey. Here is a link to LT1 cams. The
TPIS ZZ9 is a bit more expensive, but is also a nice, near stock sounding cam.

I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the Crane 227.

If you want a little bit of power, maybe you should consider the cam i got in my sig. Its my first aftermarket cam, My Comp Cam is a 212/218 @50,But i think i should have gone to the next one up. Its cheaper than the LPE cams either way. Has a very small lope, but i think most of that maybe caused by misadjusted roller rockers.

Great Info, thanks, I enjoyed reading it.

The part I found most interesting was the heads of the LT4 not only flow better in stock form, but it looks like there is a lot more meat to port on the LT4's if you wanted to.

I found that a few years ago. Decided to save the info for future use.. It is interesting to see the differences. Glad you like it.

Any source (or info) available, that will display intake/exhaust opening/closing data as well? This would make cam specs more meaningful.

Re: Stock lt1 cam specs want to do some compariing

Other Impala guys have commented that my ZZ3 cammed car sounds stock even with the roller rockers. I do not regret it for one moment but am preparing to go bigger because due to recent events the Caprice is becoming a toy and not the daily driver anymore. The 227 is just a shade larger does not require the machining the ZZ3 does and really was designed for the LT1 so I would point you that way, many guys are doing quite well with the 845 cam too.

This is a great cam. It idles like a stocker but makes great power. There's a guy here that has one of these in his 94 Impala SS with 3.73 gears, 3200 Vig, stock heads going 12.70's at 107 mph. It runs and drives like a stocker.

Re: Stock lt1 cam specs want to do some compariing

I am selling the 218/224 cam in my sig. Its compcams answer to the LT4 hotcam. Suppose to make more power through out the RPM range. It came highly recomended from combination motorsports. I like it a lot, but the car isnt a daily driver anymore more and im going with a bigger cam. It drove like it was stock.

Im selling it for $100 plus shipping if you are intersted. Its been in the car for about 5000 miles.

I have a lunati cam with pretty much the same specs depending on your lift, have you dyno'd yours?

Re: Stock lt1 cam specs want to do some compariing

Hey guys I bought a CC 305 on sale and sure it will do the job for me.I also bought a zex wet nitrous kit and figure the 114 lsa will be a bit better than 112 lsa with the spray and the 114 lsa should be less lopey and thats fine with me.
So hoping it works out well. Now only things left to get are some nice heads and headers.

I was attempting to validate and/or stir up a reply that would collaborate what 'bowtie' had posted in this thread:
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ight=cam+specs Trusting the above reference data is accurate, the following, are the specs for a 97 LT1 cam, as garnered from bowtie's data.

Intake Open: 12.5* ATDC........Intake Close: 33.5* ABDC........113* LCL
Exhaust Open: 45.0* BBDC.....Exhaust Close: 17.0* BTDC........121* LCL

Cam is advanced 4* installed according to oem specs.
Maybe someone can use this info.
