Stock heads and 224/230 Questions Here

O.K> for the winter i have pretty much decided on doin JEt hot long tubes w/ true duals and a 2224/230 cam. I do not plan on messing with my heads, changing convertor or rear gears for the time being.I also do not have to passy any kind of emmisions anymore. I have only a few questions like.... Is this the best cam for the setup i want? I am looking for most power with stock parts. ALso, for those of you who have the cam, where is the cheapest place to get it. I Am planning on getting the gasket set from combo, theyre prices seem pretty good for that. I assume i should also need a timing chain and maybe gears, and i figure stock replacements will do fine from Jason or Dal. Also, what are some suggestions for good springs/locks/retainers/ that will fit the stock heads with no machining. And finally, should i also replace the lifters? My car has 110,000 on it.

Do a search on springs there are a few to choose from. You can buy factory replacement crane or comp lifters and you will be fine.good luck

OK, that cam is available through Combonation Motorsports. Their cam packages come with locks, retainers, springs, rockers, and cam. It will cost around $700. The springs they provide will work well that that cam. No machining required. I would replace the lifters with those kinds of miles. Comp R's are good.

Brad

Edit: I see you already have the rockers. It might be cheaper to buy the cam package anyway and sell the Pro-Mags that come with the set, or see what Seth says about giving you the discounted price on cam/locks/retainers/springs without buying the entire package.

I'm sure you could.....lifters are alot cheaper than rockers. With gaskets and a timing chain I think $1000 should cover it.

Well, the 218/224 is a much better match for unported stock heads, and should make more power and torque than the 224/230.

However, if you're looking for the most power and the powerband/tq curve isn't a big concern, then the 230/236 or CC306, or GM847 all make good power, but sacrifice some power and torque down low as compared to the 218/224 or 224/230 cams.

A guy recently made 343/343 RWHP/RWTQ with the 218/224. I don't believe that a 224/230 has done that.

Another guy made 357 (can't remember the TQ) with the GM 847, but it's not as stout down low.

It's all in what you want.

hey hello there, i live in mt. prospect, and ran that cam all last summer and fall. Where in mt. prospect are you from? I have the loud white 95 z28... plates read NOIZY28.. the cam is good, i went w/ the crane springs. my motor sucked a valve and grenaded the engine tho about a month ago. im currently in progess of a all forged 396 lt1.... my car also has 110,xxx miles. I would reccomend going w/ new springs, lifters and keepers/retainers. i went ahead and did comps pro magnum rocker arms 1.6, and also hardened pushrods.

I cant wait to order my stuff and start installing. My car is sitting outside right now cause i havent had time to clean out the garage yet, i just had my basement redone and everything from down there is in the garage. My poor maro is sooo cold......
