stock gears vs 3.73
On a stock car, I doubt that you will get much change in ET. The gears will only help you if your engine is capable of producing enough/more power at the higher rpms that the gears will allow. You will probably also spin more, so if you cannot increase traction, you might actually be slower. Your car will feel a lot peppier, though.
I did it, and it made the car come alive. When I upgraded to 17 inch zr-1's my car was slowed down big time. I lost like .3 in the quarter, that was stock though. After the gears I dropped half a second. I went from 14.27-14.34 range to posting a 13.76. It definitely helped speed wise. It killed me on gas mileage. I get around an average with 50% highway and 50% city of about 15mpg with an auto. Hope that helps. If you want to have good gas mileage then dont to it. I had 3.23s stock. With stock rims that is good.
yeah the auto and only 4 gears hurts. you might be able to get someone to reprogram the way the car shifts. you could always just move to 3.43 gears and have a little bit of change. the car will feel like it runs better, but not really drastically. you might lose 2 mpg in town, but 3 or 4 on the highway. Note that the faster you go after lowering the gear ratio (high numerically) the more you will lose. so once you have reached your top gear, your rpms will be significantly higher when going faster. if you do a lot of highway driving do a 3.43, if not a 3.73.
