Stock Crank Strength

I have a dilema. How strong is the stock crank?? With forged rods and pistons, will a stock crank handle a 200-250 shot???

I plan on doing a build up and am going to go with either a LE2 kit or LE3 kit depending if I stay with the stock crank or not. I am shooting for 425 RWHP and then a 200-250 dual stage shot on top of that. I am doing billet 4 bolt mains and am thinking about reusing the stock crank.

If the stock crank won't handle that power then I am going to do a 383 with a forged crank.

Any Ideas?????

Re: Stock Crank Strength

I've seen stock cranks take a 200 shot for awhile without any problems. 250 is pushing it though.

Stock cranks are tough, but not that tough. You might as well upgrade for extra insurance.

Here's your problem:

While it's true that there are people who are successfully running a 200 shot on stock engines and the stock crank can probably take a 250 shot, you're looking at building for 425 rwhp BEFORE the nitrous shot.

If you are making 425 rwhp that means you're making about 530 fwhp. The stock crank can handle that as well.

However, if you are making say; 525 fwhp and you add, for instance; another 225 hp with nitrous; now your engine is making 750.

Your stock crank can probably handle a 250hp nitrous shot. It can also handle 530 naturally aspirated hp. HOWEVER, it most likely will NOT handle 750hp no matter HOW you make it.

Get yourself a good forged crank. Hell, if you really want to fool around with big nitrous, consider getting a callies dragonslayer.

Re: Stock Crank Strength

ok thats what i needed to know.

I guess a 383 with LE3 heads and an LE2 cam with a 200 dual stage will do me just fine !!!!
