stock airbox

Hello, has anyone here played around with cutting the stock LT1 airbox for a larger opening than the archway it has? How about a large K& N conical filter on the end? Or is it all a waste of energy $ cause of the stock tube that is all constrcitive before the MAF

Many of you will say why not buy a CAI. Well I was alwasy afraid of it scooping rain water in. Also I read gains of 10HP, and for close to $200, that can be spent better elsewhere I feel. Thanks

Re: stock airbox

Plenty of people have played around with it, gains are neglible or non existant.. the most restrictive part is the inlet before the MAF, not so much the airbox.

Quit worrying about water entry.. do you know how many thousands of people have CAI kits installed and drive their cars daily?

As far as cost goes, you gotta pay to play, and you have to start somewhere. If you don't want to spend $200 get a used CAI kit from someone on the board.

i dorked up my stock unit...no gains noticeable. i'd rather buy the bling ebay junk than do that again though...make your own or spend the hundred bucks on a used FIPK/CAI

if you are somewhat handy at all...you can easily craft something up that actually is very nice and also quite effective...and usually will cost you no more than the price of a good filter and maybe a few bucks for pvc piping or tubing.

The FIPK/CAI is worth the money. You will not have to worry about water unless you plan on driving through around 16" of water.
