Unhappy Starts when it wants!

94 LT1 140,000 k, Will start sometimes, but dies. Does turn over. Can run fine 1 time & the next either wont start @ all, or runs, then dies. Has to sit for a while before it will start back up.Short or long trip doesnt matter. Check engine light does not come on. Been @ the shop for FOUR weeks! Started this 3 months ago and will not completely quit.
Have changed the Ignition control module, the tower module, the coil, now considering the distributor, or optispark, but doesnt know if it will fix it & its $750.00 - $800. out of my pocket!!! HELP ME PLEASE!!! I have put so much $$$ in this & its still "broke"

FYI,.... in 03 & 06 I put in a new water pump & distributor along with a cap kit, coil, plugs,...VERY expensive, but the water pump was definitley out & caused the problems. This time, the water pump is good. Has anyone had this problem before? Im @ my wits end.

Assuming you have ruled out the fuel pump!?

You may notice it does it when it is cool and very humid. A fact of life you have to live with if you choose to keep the opti spark. Sorry.

The fuel pump is not entirely ruled out. The mechanic has a computer and distrubutor for it waiting for my "ok".

Time to find a new mechanic

I have yet to see an OBDI computer go bad!!!!! The distributor need not be replaced until it is confirmed it is bad. Because it has a low voltage feed back side in addition to the high voltage distribution side, it can be trouble shot very easily.

If the low voltage side is the problem it will set a code although it will not always set a MIL. So merely check it for codes.

The high voltage side will be exactly like any other distributor. Cap and rotor contacts etc.......

Since the fuel pump can be proved out in a few minutes at little or no cost, it should be done first.

To me it sounds like your mechanic has no clue and is merely throwing YOUR money at it. Guess what, eventually he'll cure your problem.

Hook up a fuel pressure gage to the shrader valve on the fuel rail. Turn key on & see if it pressurizes. If so, fuel pump not the problem. Then make sure to check your relays in the electrical box monted on the drivers side under the hood on the inner fender. The ignition relay has to pull in to energize the injectors & spark. I had one that was doing this random failure.
