starting rebuild

I am rebuilding my back-up LT1 which is stock out of a 94 and I plan to go back with it into my 96 w/obd1 PCM.I think that the heads may need to be milled as they may be warped a tad and were leaking water into the oil but still look fine- so with the flat tops would there be any issues with compression?

I am on about a $1000 +/- budget for everything minus cam pricing. I am considering going with the GM847 cam but I have read alot on here that people running it on stock engine cars were having problems with it is this just due to the operating range of the cam, or should IO just stick to the CC306 I have right now?

this is my DD, but I am pretty tolerable of it's street manners, as long as it is somewhat bearable and dependable, and when I go to the track I will possibly spraying on the car as well.

As far as the rebuild I am considering buying this kit from summit it seems pretty complete:

which I believe with rebuilding the short block as well as timing set and possibly a new AC opti I am at my limit once all machine work is added in.
what do you think power output should be with mods in sig and the CC306 or GM847

I assume this all on stock heads? I'd say you'll be easily in the 340-350hp range w/ a good tune. As a DD the 306 should be ok, but the crane 227 or the LPE would be a pretty good choice too. You could also look into some custom grinds since you plan on spraying.

I'd probably look elsewhere for a rebuild imo, but if you're on a budget that should suffice. having an extra opti is always a good idea.

good luck w/ the rebuild.

well, I am rebuilding myself I I am just taking into account all the machining as well as the kit I posted and timing set and AC delco opti since I am already going to have engine apart.
As far as the cam I already have the CC306 in my camaro I am rebuilding a second engine that I have and plan to use either the same cam again(CC306) if not go up to the GM847 if I can make more power with it, but I have heard of people having problems with the GM847 in stock size/stock headed engines, and also I think it should have a higher power output but since I only plan to rev it to about 6200 will it be worth the power I am losing "under the curve"?
