Starting Problem

Hoping someone can help!

I have a 1995 Z28 that was running just fine today until I shut it off and then tried to restart. I turned the key and heard the usual bell sound but no guage lights, radio or power windows. Everything is completely dead except for the dome lights and headlights. The lights are strong which makes me think the battery is connected and strong. I couldn't find any blown fuse.

Any idea how to get this beast running again?????

Re: Starting Problem

check the resistor on the key to see if its worn or dirty. Could be that or the lock cylinder being worn.

Re: Starting Problem

Would this prevent the dash, radio, windows, etc. from working?

If so, I bet that is the issue.

Re: Starting Problem

A little more information that may be related. For the last week I've had difficulty when first starting the car. It starts but then immediately dies. The only way to keep it going is to start and then immediately step on the gas. Then it runs fine....at least until tonight.

Is this related to the VATS issue? If I am having a VATS issue, does the fix amount to just replacing the lock cylinder?
