starter wires

My buddy is putting his car back together. He had the purple and ground hooked to one terminal on the starter. I know the black is the computer ground. Now when he turns the key he gets no click or anything. guages and fuel pump turn on. He put in a new PCM, New battery, if you jump the starter with a screwdriver it turns over but wont start. What did he fry?

Re: starter wires

We tracked it down. pulled the relay and bypassed it and it turns over.
Then we found another issue. It was leaking oil on the rear intake manifold. Not enough rtv. It was squirting pretty bad. The only thing i didnt like when turning it over there was no oil pressure on the gauge in the car. any comments?

Re: starter wires

Sounds like a broken o/p sensor or fitting.

Re: starter wires

Its not, its new. I verified its leaking from the rear corner of the intake with a extendo mirror. not enough rtv was used.

Re: starter wires

I would check to be sure its hooked up or broken and then use a mechanical gauge to verify the oil pressure. The rear intake oil leak is one thats always done without enough rtv, so you need to re do it. Getting the surface real clean and a nice tall even bead is the best way

Re: starter wires

Found the leak after taking intake off. A oil galley plug was missed on top of the block underneath the head on the drivers side. You can only see half of the hole with the head on. The engine builder screwed up. Looks like my buddy is either going to have to take the engine back out and take the engine back to them or trailer the car to the engine builder. That sucks!

Re: starter wires

The thin black wire is pcm ground, which needs to be grounded to the block not the starter..There should be only 2 wires going to the starter,12volt wire and the purple wire on the small terminal. You should not have to pull the motor back out, just go back to the builder and have him give you the pipe plug and thread it back in..

Re: starter wires

Its under the head The head has to come off to get to it. Its the engine builders fault.

Re: starter wires

What weight oil should he use with .003 main bearings? Stock oil pump. Can he run an oil cooler? He planning to run NOS in the future.

I knew squirting was not going to be the intake seal. :-) Sorry it had to be that plug. Definitly an oops by someone.
