Starter Solenoid help!
Starter Solenoid help!
Long story short the big stud broke off. Don't know how but we went to fire the new motor up and that's what is wrong.
My question - Can you just buy a new solenoid and replace it or do you have to get a whole new starter? How does the solenoid come out? Thanks.

Do a search. I had a similar issue not long ago. The verdict was (after much personal searching) that you can NOT get the solonoid seperate. I soldered on a heavy gauge wire and a "deans" plug connector to the terminal, the the wire it connects to. A deans plug is used in electric RC (radio control) as a next to zero-loss heavy duty connector. Should be able to supply enough juice for the starter.

You drill out the holes where the solenoid is held and it comes out. The shop in that link is a shop local to me but they do internet business. They replaced the solenoid in about 10 minutes and it fired right up. It cost $32.
