Starter Removal Question

I am in the middle removing the starter in my 94 z28. Do you have to remove the y pipe in order to drop the starter? Right now the starter is resting on top of passenger side y pipe. I dont really want to drop the y pipe if there is an easier way to get it out. Help please. Thanks.

I'm sure we took the starter off my '94 without removing the Y-Pipe. It's been awhile. I can't recall any specifics, other than knowing we did it. My car is a six speed. I'm not sure whether that would matter.

I think only the dual cat y-pipes need to be dropped. Not single.

What issues are you experiencing in your attempts to remove the starter?

I disconnected all wires slid the starter a few inches toward the front of the motor, that allowed me to lift up the starter to about 45* , that allowed me to rotate the starter so the solenoid could just squeeze past the curve in the exhaust pipe.

I dont think I had to remove the Y on my car to take out the starter. (BTW, 96 lt1 6 speed, and it was stock at the time)

I know my post above is a bit hard to read but its really more about finess than anything else. as long as it is stock it will fit out.

IM with tex95z its all about finess.i have 93 z auto single cat.at first it was hell, but just keep trying to work it out it will come.i remember my process being somewhat like tex95z explained but i also had to flex my hard lines comeing from my tranny just a little to slide the starter out and the lines flexed right back.just try to work it out but if you run into my problem to dont push the limits of those lines.Good luck!!
