starter motor wiring question

I am in the final stages of rebuilding my 95 Z28 LT1. My mechanic put a new starter in, and it does not spin the motor very well. The parts guy said that the starter motor for 94 and 95 LT1's are different.
Questions: I bought my car new in September 1994 from the dealer. It is listed as a 1995. Could it be a hybrid between the 1994 and 95? Are the starters different? Do they wire up differently?
Thanks.

I am sure they are pretty much all the same.It sounds like you have one or more of the following going on.A weak battery.A weak starter,or a poor connection.I would clean all the connections, check the cables too.,If that doesnt do it,Test the battery. If there is still a problem test the starter. One thing--whats the compression ratio?

Stock is 10.5:1. Did you do something to lower yours?
Digit 10 of the VIN will tell you what year the car is. S=1995.
There has been a slight difference noted in the starter casing/solenoid mounting, but there is no difference in how they are wired. The positive battery cable goes to the large terminal on the bottom of the solenoid and the purple wire goes to the outside terminal. No other wires go on the starter.

Mr Shoebox,
Thanks. That got it running.
I am rebuilding the motor. I put a 383 stroker kit in and we lowered the compression so that it will be ready for a blower.
