what are the signs that a starter is getting heat soaked? I have a 97 z 28

Basically slow turning when it's hot, especially after the car sits about 10 minutes.

I know a lot of guys replace them when they fail but I take them to a rebuilder. Doesn't cost as much as a parts store replacement but usually has better workmanship right here in the good ole US...
