I worked at a dealer for 5 years. Dealer cost now is $80 an hour. I would guess a quote from a sales tech would be 3 hours labor. So $240. It wont take that long to actually do that convertor but that is part of dealing with the dealer. After market shops give way better priceing but then again they dont deal with it everyday like the GM techs do. So take the craftsmanship for what its worth. Either way its a rip off to have anyone else install a part for you. *)

Gear install would be a good 5 to 6 hour job at dealer cost. Like I said wouldnt take them 5-6 but that is what they would charge you.

Sounds like a steal to me.....I got quoted about $250 in labor to put in gears and around $250 for the torque converter alone.

I got ripped off by a shop welding my DD sub frame connectors in. They charged me $175!!! And the worst part is the guy that did it was my neighbor for about 3 years before he moved!!! That will teach me to always get an estimate before ANYONE touches my car.

A local Mr. Transmission installed a TC for me for $150, which I thought was worth every penney.

I think mine was $258, I had to pay for new bolts and a seal for the pump which was leaking, figured if the trans is out might as well fix it you know. Gears I wouldnt be looking for the cheapest price but rather some one that knows how to do it right. There not hard but you have to know what your doing.

I got my stall put in and wired oil temp and trans temp guages, (bronzed in the pan) for $275. Gears cost me $250, and i have been through four sets of gears before i got a set that would last 3 months. That guy lost his *** on me, he just kept ordering gears till one would last. Stay away from richmond. The last time I picked up my car, the other sets sat in the floor. I dont know if he got credit on them or not.

You should do it yourself and save the money. A stall convertor is not hard at all to install. You just need a tranny jack. Good luck either way.
