Squeaky Alternator

well lately there is a nasty squeeking noise coming from the engine bay. I'm almost positive it's the alternator. The only problem is, it works great. Time for a new one?

Could be a worn out belt. Thats what my squeak was from.

I had the same problem. Went to napa and bought bearings. They sold me the wrong ones. I already had my alternator apart, so I just greased my old bearings. They were dry from my car sitting so much the last few years. No more squeaks.

Re: Squeaky Alternator

The accessory belt is a common source for engine bay squeeks. Buy a can of belt dressing (around $3) and use it as a diagnostic aide. Spray some on the belt and see if the noise goes away. If the noise is gone, then you know it's the belt and replace the belt.
