Which spring is better for a 210cc AFR Heads with 236-245 , 575/575 ,114lsa hydrolic roller cam??? Or should I go with 1.530 O.D AFR's flat tappet springs??

any suggestion will help me..

I would want ~150-160 lbs after the springs take a set (and if you ask me if that's open or closed I'm going to PING you with a fragmented packet larger than 65,536 bytes)

How much a spring sets will depend entirely on the quality of the springs you buy. That said, I wouldn't use AFR's springs (cause I don't know who makes them). I'd opt for Comp, Isky, PSI or Manley instead.

That cam has quite a lot of acceleration. Keep an eye on the springs.

i got my cam from joe overton today and called him about it, he said i need at least 165 on the seat and would feel better if i had 180. and that cam has nowhere near the ramp speed the lobes on this cam does. but he recomended the kmotion 800 springs .030 short. but the lmotion 800 will have 165 on the seat and 495 open and good to a .700 lift that would leave no chance of coil bind, and a good .100 of spring left to go, so they should last a long time.

this was not a post to say i have a joe O it was to throw out another spring selection that would more than suite his needs. and with that cam he going to have to run comp Rs so might as well put a little more pressure to it.

 

What is your cam?? A solid roller??

no its hydralic, i just got off the phone with joe, and he said this cam will give the comp Rs a real good test, and that if the lsa was move any tighter it would be a solid roller. and he told me i would be able to see how agresive the lobes are just by looking and you can. the open side looks like it stright up and down like a solid but the closing ramps are not as agressive as the open ramps. he said its right at being a solid roller. and it will sound like a solid roller.

 

What's your cam specs?? duration/lifts lsa??? Because my AFR springs are 1.530"O.D , 145lbs on the seat and 355# open.

 

145/355 is not enough spring for that cam. I'd reconsider.

What about useing the springs recommended and useing a AFR Hydra Rev Kit?

 

You won't need the rev kit if you use compcam 'R' serie lifters..

I think the rev kit is more insurance in case you do over rev the motor. I feel, whatever the manufacturer recommends should be suffice, heck they are the R&D people, and thats what we pay for, just like the cams.

 

Why doesn't a Comp R lifter require a rev kit?

I am speaking from experience in suggesting more spring. I have seen a number of new engines running right-on-the-verge-of-being-enough-springs gain 10hp or more by stepping up to a spring with 20+lbs more pressure than was recommended.

Your cam is ok, it's not what I would want for this build but looking at things a little more.... you have a lot of lift per degree of duration. A lobe like that is going to need more spring than something more typical in that range of duration.

I would shoot for ~165 after the springs take a set. That means you will need 175 lbs or better depending on the spring quality you're willing to pay for. You will lose nothing by using more pressure and could do a good deal of damage to the engine by not using enough.
