Exclamation spraying gas out !

When I open the shrader valve cap my car immediately releases the fuel pressure and sprays it out right there. Is'nt the cap supposed to come off without releasing the pressure? I was thinking a pin or something had to be pushed inside the actual schrader valve to release the pressure.

There is a pin, just like a tire valve stem that releases the pressure.

When you take the cap off nothing should happen.

If your car is missing the valve itself, run down to the parts store and pick up a new core. They're the same type that are in car tires.

When I bought the car it did not do this the first time I tried. I started hammering at it and messing with it. I thought the pin had to be pushed down to release the pressure. I'll have to check if the sem is still down there and if I can get it out. How do you release the pressure normally?

Like letting air out of a tire.

I see. Thats what I was doing, or trying. I think there is'nt one in there. does running the car without a stem do anything to the fuel pressure? I really need to check my fuel pressure but need a gauge. The cheapest ones here go for around $40. Thats a little steep for me just to check the pressure one time. I can buy a fuel pump or regulator for that price.

You can throw parts at it, but you still won't know what the pressure really is. It's a tool that you must have if you want to troubleshoot a modern fuel injected engine.
