Split locking header bolts
Well basicly I need a part # for summit or jegs for split locking header bolts. Preferably 1'' long. And I will need 16 bolts correct? Because all of these things are saying they come in packages of like 12 or somthing like that.
Re: Split locking header bolts
Gen II SBC use 12 bolts not 16

Re: Split locking header bolts
You should know that with proper tightening procedure, you can use the "cardboard" exhaust gaskets and ordinary header bolts and they will seal just fine.
Without the proper procedure, you will blow out your gaskets even with the split locks.
The proper procedure is that right after install you fire the engine, let it run for 5 minutes and then let it cool completely before tightening the header bolts.
Repeat with a 10 minute heatup.
Now you just carry a small wrench and tighten the bolts each time you get ready to fire it up and go somewhere.
All you do is check each bolt and snug them down by feel. Don't CRANK them down, just SNUG them. Dont worry if you're not sure what I mean by that. Your hand will know.
By the time you have done this 3 or 4 times, you'll stop finding loose bolts. When you have found no loose bolts 3 times in a row, then you're done. Just check it a month later to be sure.
The point is that once you have gotten the gaskets "set" properly, you won't have to worry about them. If you still want to use the split locks, then go right ahead. You won't need them, but if you feel better about it or if you even just feel that they look better, then use them.

Re: Split locking header bolts
Not sure what they're costing ya,but......the stainless ARP's with the small head are the best i've ran across. They have a small (5/16) head which allows you to get to the REALLY EASY
. Use some anti-seeze and follow the above tightning sequence and you'll be fine, plus they look awsome. I paid 40 bucks for mine at my local parts house.
