Just wondering where you found this information? I thought that O2 sensors work as fallows (BTW, this is copied right from my text book):

"When heated to about 600 degrees F, a voltage is generated on two platinum strips inside the sensor. One of these strips is exposed to outside air and the other to the exhaust stream. The two strips develop different voltages in response to the amount of O2 ions they attract. The difference in these voltages is what makes the sensor act like a battery.

When there is a rich air-fuel mixture, there is a shortage of oxygen in the exhaust gas. The outside air side of the sensor has an abundance of oxygen. Oxygen ions, which are negatively charged atoms, move from the atmospheric side platinum strip to the exhaust side strip. This transfers a negative charge to the exhaust side of the sensor, which results in a signal generation of .45 volts or higher. The opposite occurs when the air-fuel mixture is lean."

According to my text, in no way is the wire used in detecting an "oxygen base line level." It is all done internaly in the O2 sensor through vents. That's why if you go offroading a lot (with a truck, not camaro, lol) sometimes it will throw a code for an O2 sensor because those vents can get clogged.

And please, don't get mad because I'm challanging you. I'm just trying to figure out if my tuition was well spent or not, lol. We're all adults here (I hope anyway.) Lets keep it to an adult level conversation.

It comes straight from the GM factory service manual...I've read it myself. Based on that, it seems as though you can extend the harness on the car, but supposedly not the O2 sensor itself....there's a distinction that few are making.

Re: Splicing 02s

Hmmm... gets me thinking on how it actually works. I'll have to look into it.

I think they used to have vents.

But they had a better idea, (Cheaper), to use what is already there.

It surprised me also.

I found it after doing a search on 02 extension.

I don't understand what is the problem really. Come on people, you've spent tons of money on other mods, but you can't afford a $20 extension? You only need one for OBD1 cars.

Spliced o2s will NOT read as accurate as ones which will be properly extended.
