spec question?

I want to order a clutch for my 93 Z. I am planning 400Rwhp and maybe a small shot of N20. I did a couple of searches and I am undecided on a clutch. I do not want to spend $900 on a clutch. I am looking at the spec stage 3 and 4. What would be better from a driveabiliy and reliability standpoint?

That is a good testimony for a Stage 4 Spec... Will it work with any flywheel or do you need to by a Spec Flywheel?

You're the second guy I've met that says the Stage 4 drives like the Stage 3. Might have to try that someday if my stage 3 ever dies.

How long have you had your stage 3? Also does spec give any kind of warrenty? Such as if i got a stage 3 and it broke after 10k? Also, what did you have to do to get the clutch in? Did you pull the motor every time?

InjectedSS,

This makes me consider the spec stage 4 now. From what I read on a lot of sites they said that this clutch was mainly for racing applications. They explained that it has no give at all and that it just GRABS when you take off. I was scared off by that, but now that I have read what you put it seems like it will be great for street/strip applications. I'll now be switching the stage 3 for the stage 4. Should be great for my 383 that is being built! Check sig for specs.

I have the Stage 3 with 6 pucks and I love it. It's great on the street and at the track. The Stage 4 sounds great too!

looks like I will probably go with the stage 4 mainly becuase of the unsprung disc and I have heard a couple of people say it is easier on the street.

Not the pressureplate, the friction disk. I swtiched from the Stage 2 kevlar to the Stage 3 no problem. Spec said it's ok.

Since we are talkin about spec does anyone have any thougt, insite or information about the stage 2? My stock clucth it about worn out with the car at 65K on the clock and I want a good clutch that will not slip. This way I can use some good Drag radials to hook my moser and 4.11's.

I have nothing much for power other thena cat back and computer tuning so I don;t need much. That is why I was wondering about a stage 2? anyone have thoughts?

DO IT man, you will not regret it. People that say that $hit are the same homos that think 4.11's are too much for an M6, or the same people that think the 306 cam is to wild for the street Buncha poosys that belong in hondas! Seriously if your gonna build a drag car that stop being such poosys! DO IT RIGHT. People whine about the stupidest things. Of course you can't have a ten sec car and still pass smog Of course your going to have to sacrifice some driveability when your car gets faster. Thats just how it goes.

All that aside man, go for it. As long as your not one of those people you will be fine

No the pressure plate has NOTHING to do with it. It's the DISK that is different. But YES you can change out JUST the disk as long as your pressure plate is still in good shape.

Spec has good customer support. More often than not they'll replace your broken parts if you get one.

You don't have to touch the motor to change a clutch.
