Spark tester.... how much gap?

Hey I got a spark tester and was wondering what is the appropriate minimum gap the spark should jump on the LT1?....30mm?

Well, stock gap is .050, so I would use that for simulation.

Re: Spark tester.... how much gap?

no not spark plug gap im testing the power of teh ignition system since I dont know why my car wont run and I set the gap at about an inch and the cylinders I tested jumped it.... damn this car.

Hey shoebox do you know if you can test fuel pressure when just cranking the motor or does it only come up when you prime it and once it starts running?

Re: Spark tester.... how much gap?

I believe my spark tester came witha a guide that show distance based on coil voltage. I'd estimate the stock coil should produce at least 30K volts so I'd look for a gap to match that. I help fix a friend's car that had a bad coil; the coil would jump a spark about 1/4", but not start the car.

A static test can be made by connecting a pressure gauge and priming the system. If you prime it several times, you should see pressure in the normal range. You can also run the pump continuously by applying 12v to the fuel pump prime connector by the RH shock tower. Engine running tests should also be done for a complete picture. There is a small article about fuel pressure on my "how to" page.
