Spark Plugs backing out?
Spark Plugs backing out?
After installing plugs (tr55's) in my LT1 I've had two of them get loose enough to turn by hand.
Should I have used Loctite? I'm afraid to torque them too tight in an aluminum head.

Re: Spark Plugs backing out?
I just had the same problem with mine 3 days ago. I had 3 back out in the middle of a road trip. Luckily I had my tools so I tightened them back down and went along my way. I have since swapped to Autolites.
Re: Spark Plugs backing out?
I'll bet there are a lot of cars running around with loose spark plugs and don't even know it. I just happened to check because I had it on a lift. Has anybody ever had a spark plug completely come out? Does it cause damage? I'll bet its gets loud as hell

Re: Spark Plugs backing out?
If you can get to it, what I would do is put anti-seize on it, tighten it down to what you want, then put some orange or black RTV (pref. black) .... just a small bead of it between the spark plug socket fitting and the head - let it cure over night and BAM ... no more back-outs....... if you get it on there right :P
notice i didn't say put RTV in the THREADS ... that would be disasterous!

Re: Spark Plugs backing out?
It's loud. That was not LT1, it was my friends 4.6 ford Crown Vic, common problem. Plug with coil were jumping like crazy around the hole, and he drove that way like 50 miles.
