I'm trying to select a good wire with super heat protection for my headers - i do have the kevlar sleeves at the boot area to help.

I've thought of the OTVC - but seems like a pain to install - but does this design work? Then i see the Taylor Race 409 10.4mm thick wires - anyone know anything about these - are they for high heat applications?

they are basically the taylor 7.8 mm with extra coating for heat resistance which makes them 10.4, i run the taylor 7.8 with sleeves and they work fine as long as you use sleeves and can keep them off the headers

 

That sounds like i have them now - the sleeves cover them around the hearder area so they dont touch directly. So no need for going over the valve covers then?

 

I wouldnt think so unless you were going for a certain look under the engine bay, but if not save some money and just go with the 7.8s, but place them carefully and make sure your sleeves dont move around, or they will burn up

 

Taylor wires are junk. Go with MSD 8.5mm wires routed in the stock locations. Use fiberglass heat sleeves if necessary.

Not a fan of OTVC wires. Too much room for error during the install, they make the engine bay look too busy, and they make cleaning your valve covers impossible.

 

8mm and larger wires won't fit the factory clips and such...

BTW I have 8mm taylor wires. Nothing wrong with them

 

You can open up the factory looms, or get rid of them entirely and just use zip ties.

My experience with Taylor wires is that after a year of using their OTVC setup, the boots and jacket started cracking and leaking spark. I have since switched to the MSD 8.5mm wires and have zero problems.

While some people have success with them, far more people have better luck with the MSDs.

 

You would have to modify or replace the clips like the ones that clip the 4 wires together and the flat clip going between the PS pump and AC compressor. The looming will fit though.

I have the Taylor pre cut factory replacement wire set. I use the OEM style aluminum boot covers on the 5,7 and 8th cylinder and some kevlar shielding that came with my headers for the cylinder 7 wire.

2,4,6 and 8 wire can be run to the factory locations and route them behind the AC loop and the 8th behind the dipstick. At least this is good enough for my long tubes.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with taylor wires... the only difference you will see with them and msd wires is about 15 dollars in price difference, and the taylors will fit in your stock holders

 

i just purchased taylor wires.... only ran it for a day though.. but they worked! haha

 

I've been running the MSD 8.5s in the stock locations with the stock looms for 6-8 years now. No problems.

 

I have to summit racing brand wires, i think they are made by MSD, $15 less, I have had them for 3 years with no problems!
