Question Sound like my opti is on the way out?

Im assuming this is the problem but what do you guys think? Over the last year or so, my car would always seem to miss a real little bit when I first started it, AND it was below about 40 degrees outside. Within 1min. of driving it would clear up. It wasn't a bad chugging type of miss, but it sounded as if it was on 7 cylinders. Well I haven't started my car in quite some time up till last week when I decided to take a little spin, (warm weather that day). It started just fine and ran good, but when I started to accelerate, it was backfirring bad. This slowly but surely cleared up, and after about 5min. of driving it was completely gone. The other day I decided to start it again and take a short drive. This time it did the exact same thing but only took about 1-2min. before the backfirring was gone. As far as I know it has the original optispark that would now be 11 years old with 106K miles. Is there any way that it could be the coil acting up? I wouldn't think the coil would clear up after it warms up.

Impossible to say. I would look at the condition of plugs, plug wires, coil and opti electrical connections before replacing the opti.

Could be a simple burnt wire--and a lot of times it is. How old are the wires and plugs? Basically you check the main things then just start replacing things.

You say it clears up, do you mean totally? like there is no power loss or notice anything wrong? If it was a plug wire it would get worse with heating up.

By the way being cold is harder on a coil then being warm---if you decide you want a coil pack let me know i believe i still have a High output crane one laying around (has to be 95 or later)--i used it for maybe 5 months(that's driving the car just on weekends too) before i bought the Delteq system (I had a high miss).
