Ok im making a final attempt at solving my loss of power problems. Last night I headed out to do some racing just to see how it was running. First up was a 1998 Mustang cobra. bbk shorties,x-pipe,cat-back,cold air. 4.10's,shifter,bbk throttle body,and some other small things. Ran twice beat him by a consistant 3-4 cars(partially a bad driver) . Next was a bone stock 2001 mustang gt 5spd. Long story short he beat me twice from a dead stop by about 2 cars . Things I know are wrong..1). needs a new opti (runs without missing sometimes then other times it just falls on its face,was not missign at all when i ran both mustangs) 2.) Runs awfully rich when warm. 3.) has a pretty bad exhuast leak i have no idea if that has soemthign to do with it or not. I had this problem before and replaced the icm and everythign was better but now its just sick all the time. Only smoke it lets out is black when I get heavy on the gas so i dont think it is a tired motor. So can anyone help me with this?? BTW my car is a 1994 camaro z28 a4 with trans go shift kit,motive 3.73's,LPE cold air,BBK shorties and y pipe,magnaflow cat-back. Thanks for any help at all.

 

You need to fix the exhaust leak, that is why you are running rich.

 

It ran rich before the exhuast leak started, But will a mail order tune help out any?

 

Hooking it up to a scanner to see what your perimeters are while driving around would help out finding whats going on, first of all. Then mail order tune, if you want.

 

I had a failing opti, sometimes it would pull hard and sometimes it would barely move under 2000rpm. i did plugs and wires, coil, o2 sensors, all kinds of ****. i ended up getting a used opti from someone on the boards for like 40 bucks, spent a few hours changing it (it's really not that bad) and saw my old one was covered with rust and the drive shaft was all rough and crunchy. put the "new" one in and it was like a whole nother car, fixed all my problems. i suggest you look into that....

 

FIX the exhaust leak pick up a new opti change your plugs and O2's and probly get a tune too because they help out ALOT
and your car should be runnin like new
