Soon to be LT1 owner
Hey hows it going guys. I am on a lot of other boards and decided since I'm about to buy a Camaro that I should join this one. I live in Austin, Texas. I found a 1994 Z28 with a 6 speed in Florida on Autotrader.com. Its a really good deal so I'm going to fly down there with my girlfriend and we are going to drive it back, about 1000 miles. The car has around 134000 miles. White with black t-tops. Couple things the car already has:
Brand new 6 speed from the dealership
Rearend just rebuilt at dealership
Headers
Flowmaster Exaust
$1300 on new wheels and tires ( tiny 16 inch)
Aluminum valve covers ( don't know why it has these but it does)
I now own a 95 Jeep Wrangler (5.5 inches lift and 33s) and I just sold my 98 Mustang GT. I know quite a bit about cars and my father builds racing engines for a living.
I know a little about the cars problems, like the optispark. What else should I worry about? -AZ28

I'm not going to try and talk you out of buying it but i am curious as to how much you buying it for. I'm also in Austin (Del Valle). Welcome to the board. If you need any help with any of the repairs, give me a PM, as I have done most of the "typical" repairs.

welcome to the wonderful world of chevy's reverse flow heated(these things run hot)and oticrapped LT1.Your girlfriend will just love the passenger side "hump"for the trip
okay, enough ragging on these cars,I'm on my 2nd Fourth gen(had 2 third gens)and even after all their gripes I still love em!I bought my first, a 94 6spd Z with only 48k miles on it exactly a year ago last week, and drove it trouble free for 8 mo's except a starter(needed one as soon as I drove it off the lot)and will never forget when I took it for a drive the first time
I just loved its low and top end power even compared to my L98 corvettes and suped up GTA that Ive had.As far as the main things to look out for in these cars are
1.otisparks
2.intake manifold leaks
3.leaky waterpumps
4.leaky T-tops
5.torn intake bellows
6.fast wearing rear brakes
I'm sure others will chime in with some more, its also a real PITA to change plugs and wires, but hopefully with the miles on your car some of these probs have already been fixed.Use synthetic fluids, change any filters or sensors you think might need it (like air, fuel, and 02's)change your cat to a high flow one(I have a carsound) if it looks original, and change your thermostat to a 160 and get your fans to come on sooner.Good luck, and watch your speed for the trip as I'm sure you never had to worry about that in your stang

Theres a hump for the cat to aid in clearance right next to the center console on the passanger side under the front of the passanger seat. Only about an inch high. I never sit in that seat so I could care less. Yes you can change to a vented optispark from your 94 style. Plus I hear the vented are cheaper too. Just avoid large puddles.
PS-There is NO opti that will have no problems. Some last a week, others 150,000 miles.
