Question Is something wrong with my car?

Ok I will list my mods....

Moroso Cold Air Intake
CSI water pump
Hooker LT headers
Mufflex Y
Hooker Cat-back

Well, all this on a 6 speed Camaro and I can't beat a stock 87 GT. Is his car a freak or is something wrong with mine? I barely pull away from him at the top of 3rd. I have not gone into 4th just yet.

I will say one thing, 4:11 gears are going in tomorrow. Right now I have 3.23's on a 6 speed car but I didn't think that would kill me that much. Gearing my problem?

Sounds like you still have 2.73 gears with the M6 since you switched from an auto. I would not think it would have an awful amount of power off the line but you should be beating him fairly eaisly if he is truly stock.

Your "friend" has some thing hes not telling you about, or you are a horrible driver.

Your car should tear him apart no questions asked.

My car when it was all stock ran a stockish looking LX trunk 5.0, I walked him at the track hard, it was only an 1/8th mile track, had it been, a full 1/4 I would have probably walked him even more. Low end we were fairly close but once i satrted picking up speed, it was curtains.

Also do you mean 4.10s, 4.11s are 9" gears.

To beat a mustang----87???? Just race him in reverse! Nah, bud, just kidding. I feel that you should be whopping on that pony like nothing. Maybe the guys car is more modified than yours---he might be sandbagging on you and you thought you were just going up against another 87 mustang GT. Try the 411's---if no result>>>>>>keep adding more power>>>you know..........you can never have enough power!---Good luck!

Despite what people say Mustangs aren't exactly slow. Their stock gearing is better than our cars and can often take us off the line (I know I will be flamed). I wasn't able to overcome my buddies 87 Stang until I put headers in. He only had a small amount of bolt ons. Now he has an 88 Saleen Stang which I find easy to pull on. Might be a bit unfair as I have quite a bit of suspension and bolt ons done whereas he's still pretty stock. I friend is also quite a good driver so that counts for something. I've only raced a handful of 5.0 in my life but often win.
