In a recent CHP mag they dynoed an ls1 with the ls1 hotcam and ls6 heads and made 515 flywheel horspower.
Now, doesn't the ls1 hotcam have the same specs as the lt1 hotcam? and if you took an lt1 and added the hotcam and heads that flowed just as well as the ls6 heads why can't you get numbers like this out of an lt1? or is there something i'm missing

thanks

LSx heads and intake are way superior to LTx heads and intake. That is the reason they get big numbers.

The LSx have 18* heads as apposed to our 23*, their exhaust doesn't heat up the intake like in the LTx heads as much aswell, also the intake is not only plastic & longer runners but the injector placement is almost perfect as its right at the valve so basicly perfect. Should I keept going ?

They're actually 15º but there are alot of differences in the Gen1,2 and LSx heads. The LSx head is actually alot more like a Ford head than anything GM related.
If you swapped the heads (LT1/LT4) for a set of 15º GM race heads with the right port dimensions/volume, used a decent intake or heavily modified stock one, you could make the same level of power with the LT1 block and similar cam specs. All in the induction.

Also when they did there test's in CHP they have no accesories on the motor so that also free's up some hp. i would say it is to much more than the LT1.
you would have to dyno an LT1 with similar mods to compare the numbers

Besides the above mentioned stuff, yes the cam has similar duration and lift, but what about the profile and other specs? The LT4 HOT cam is not particularly aggressive for it's duration maybe the LS1 one is? Trying to compare LS1 parts and LT1 parts is pretty pointless anyway since they are completely different motors that just happen to be built by the same company.
