Some stroker questions
Some stroker questions
Its finally time to build it since I am motorless right now. Some questions though:
1. Parts- how do these sound for an all N/A 4-bolt main Vette block?
Eagle cast steel crank 3.75" stroke
Eagle I-Beam rods
Keith Black or Speed Pro hyper pistons
I originally wanted all forged, but after reading up it seems I really dont need anything except maybe the pistons to be forged if its just N/A, what do you think?
2. Bearings and rings- Im thinking Total Seal moly rings $110 a set, and I think that federal mogul and clevite 77 are the same exact thing but I wanted to see if there is something better.
3. Balancer- This is a topic I dont know much about, is it best just to get the Fluidampr since it has the hub and pulley built in, or is there another alternative maybe more pocket friendly?
4. Machining- Anybody know a realy good shop to maching/balance/assemble everything around Toledo, OH...Ill drive upwards of 200 miles to get there.
5. Timing chain- if I want to run a cloyes set or the lt4 heavy duty or the lunati heavy duty, will i have to switch to vented opti setup?
thanks a lot guys.

It is hard to respond because you didn't say what you wanted from the engine. If you are going to go with a hot cam and some moderate heads work then I think you have chosen practical parts. If you are looking for something with a monster cam that peaks at 7000rpm and you are going to have your foot through the floorboards ever time you drive it you might want to look at forged parts all the way through. Personally I think that the hyper pistons are great for anything short of Nitrous or a big blower.
Actually I think ive decided to go all forged, I found some websites with some really good prices on forged stuff that I can get a scat crank, eagle hbeams, and probe forged pistons for like $1200 total. I am going with a quite a large cam, what do you think about the XE 236/242? The only thing i need to find out now is a good shop in ohio somewhere to get this done at. Opinions on parts is still welcome. Oh, what do you think about the scat 4130 crank instead of the 4340? Ive been told to go forged crank since they come balanced already opposed to the cast steel, do the 4130s come balance or is it just the 4340s? And also I am most likely going to send my heads to Lloyd Elliot to get his port job and most likey bigger valves too, hoping for somewheres in the 280 range if im luckey. That should put me well over 400rwhp right, and over 450tq?

There is no such thing as a pre balanced crank unless you buy a kit. That would be the way to go. Several MFR's have kits with the entire rotating assembly pre balanced. Call the guys at Nu-tek.
As far as your question regarding the damper. DO NOT get a fluidamper. Until they warm up in cold climates, they will shake your teeth out. You could buy mine cheap if you want to find out. Get the ATI super damper.
I have a Scat 4340 but would recommend the Calies Dragon Slayer. Read good things about it.
