Some advice for those removing exhaust manifolds.....
Some advice for those removing exhaust manifolds.....
I know the talk of "header install" has been covered a million times. However I just wanted to give my .02 because I'm usually the one asking questions and not giving advice. Thought I would try to help out.
On my exhaut manifold bolts I sprayed them with ZEP penatrating fluid "heaven in a can". If you spray the factory bolts a few times for about 2-3 days before your header install, it makes the bolts effortless to get out. I never used anything more then a 3/8" rachet and some elbow grease to break them loose. No cheater bar or any other leverage needed. My car has 54,000 miles and the manifolds had never been out. A 3/8" Rachet with an 1 1/2" and 3" extention with a 14mm deep and shallow well socket did most of the work.
Just thought I would offer some words of wisdom.

Hopefully the rest of your install goes as easy as that. I didn't even use a penetrating compound on the manifold bolts, and they came out with a 3/8" ratchet. They weren't loose, but they weren't seized or anything either. I guess I was lucky.
Here's a tip on the headers: Wrap the headers in an old blanket or towel and safety pin it shut at the flange holes, both at the collector and where it meets the head. I did this and it protected my header while I was sliding it into place. Then I put a jackstand under the collector, went up top, undid the safety pins and ran the bolts in.
