Solid Roller Camshaft in LT1 383

I found out recently that my heads and cam 96 Impala SS has a cracked block. Although this stinks, it does make way for the forged 383 that I want to build! Because Virginia will be doing OBDII testing soon, there isn't a chance that I will pass, so I decided to go with a solid roller camshaft, and make the car a bracket race only car.

I don't know much about solid roller cams, but the one that I am thinking about buying seems to give VERY good results in Desktop Dyno, so I wanted to get everybody's opinion before I get it. It seems to be pretty aggressive, but I don't care anymore!

Solid Roller for my Impala SS

Has anybody used this camshaft?
What solid roller would you suggest?

Current car specs:
1996 Impala SS
Agostino Stage II cast iron heads (2.02 / 1.57)
Comp Cams "502" cam
Full length headers with random tech cats
3200 RPM Art Carr converter
3.73 gears
PCM by ME!!! with help from Bryan Herter
Best 1/4 mile time to date: 13.21 @ 102.7 MPH in the heat... never got to make a cold run

Looks like a pretty good choice if you stay with your iron heads. If you jump up to a set of AFR210's or 220's which I would recommend for a stroker you could probably go a little bigger especially with lift. Also consider shaft rockers with a solid roller setup. Much less mx and they are quieter as well. JMO of course. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the input! You are right, the cast iron heads I have fall on thier face after .600 lift... but that was the way I wanted it at the time, I guess! Thanks for the tip on the shaft rockers... will look into that.

Also, I am currently going to be stuck with the stock PCM, and thus limited to 7000 RPMs... although the shortblock might be able to handle more (at least I am requesting it to!), for now I don't have the money to invest in something better.

In the distant future, I see a more agressive cam, higher stall converter, maybe some 4.56's and an aftermarket PCM or whole new fuel / ignition control.... dare to dream...

Thanks!
