Solid Roller 383 just installed, can't get it to fire!
Solid Roller 383 just installed, can't get it to fire!
Vehicle has delteq ignition and solid roller cam. While cranking the car tries to start somewhat, backfires through intake and exhaust. Sounds basically like timing is off. According to delteq's trouble shooting diagram their ignition system is working properly, I've checked each coil and all are sparking. Red LED lights up on ignition module showing that ignition module and opti are synchronized. Could the opti be installed wrong causing the car to fire like this? Have fuel pressure and injectors are being pulsed, spark is present @ each coil, solid lifters eliminate the need for time of lifters pumping up. I'm thinking the opti is installed wrong somehow, cam timing is off or overtightened rockers may be causing this. All input is appreciated.

timing set could be 180* out, very possible with it backfiring thru the intake. 12 and 6, 6 and 12...how did you install the dots on the gears?
what opti are you using, vented or nonvented?
could also be hanging valves open with the rockers
either loosen all the rockers and start over or pull the timing cover and check the timing set with #1 at TDC

Same thing happened to me, it took me about 5 minutes to figure out I had ALL the valves set on the wrong stroke. They were set good but it would fire on exhuast stroke and was shooting flames out of the open headers. It even caught the headers on fire a little. That's just a thought, good luck.
Re: Solid Roller 383 just installed, can't get it to fire!
the cam and timing set was installed by CAM in Durham, it's a vented opti (96)
I'm really leaning towards the opti being installed wrong or rockers overtightened. Doesn't seem to be trying to fire on all cylinders

It didn't seem like it was firing on all cylinders when mine was wrong either. It's just something to look at. When you get it figured out please post the problem.

Hopefully it will be fixed this week, I found countless posts regarding similiar issues but no one ever posts what fixed their problem

you should start adjusting them yourself. get a how to print off. practice makes perfect. isint it true that with a Solid roller the rockers have to be tightened every 3,000 miles???

I put 75miles on the car yesterday and the valvetrain has gotten noticeably louder, I'm going to adjust them again tomorrow.I have no problem adjusting them myself, the guy who degreed the cam and measured for the pushrods did it while he had the motor the first time.
