So what are the latest, greatest, and most popular LT1 cams today?

School me. I have a buddy looking for some HP in his 97SS m6 and dont know what to tell him. I have been out of the LT1 loop for a couple years now. What are the latest cams now that make good power in the LT1? Will probably get programming via pcmforless along with obd1 conversion. Assume full bolt ons and no cats. Will be on stock heads/intake at least this year, maybe a mild home port. Car will be run with stock 3.42 gear, so looking for a cam that wont be too nasty under 2000 rpms. What do you guys suggest? Years ago I remember there was a Hotcam kit and comp had a nice piece (305/306?). What is making the power nowdays?

I asked the same question about a week ago and everyone kept suggesting the LT4 hotcam kit. Here is a good link with some cheap prices.

I agree with all of the above cams. But like Javier stated, the XE cams are growing more and more popular with the LT1 F-body owners. When I finally get the money together I am going with the Comp Cams XE224/230.

XE 224/230, 112 LSA all the way. Even without a tune this thing pulls like a **** deep into redline. We'll see how it performs after I go to Speed, inc. this summer.

XE 224/230

How does the 224/230 drive? Does it search for idle? Does it stutter alot under 2K? This car will stay with 3.42 gear so that may be important. If my freind was going 4.10 then I guess we could go as nasty as we want but this thing cant feel poopy down low.

I'm in the exact same boat, in fact I have the full bolt ons, and this weekend will have Jethot longtubes w/no cats, 3:42 grs, 6spd. I have heard the HOTCAM was not all "that" anymore. So I'm also looking for a good cam for stock heads that will make the best "bang for my buck" difference. Thanks.

I would think he'd go to 3:73 gears before he did 4:10. That seems to be the best gear change for mostly stock engines. I mean 4:10 is great for a stroker motor on these cars but he won't have a good daily driver especially on the highway from what I've heard.

hotcam is all about bang for the buck

with the kits they have at combo motorsports, you can get the hotcam kit, any cam you want and some goodies for about $70 more if my memory serves me correct. I think the Xe 224 is a great idea.

I can barely feel any cam surge whatsoever under 2k.. i swear once it gets out of idle the car is as smooth as it was before the cam.. it drives very well, and mine is on a 112 grind...

hell i even have 3.23's still (stepping up to 3.73's hopefully soon)

But are any of these XE cams sniffer legal? Or at least will they pass sniffer tests with a pcmforless tune?
