If you want a short stroke, high RPM motor; Buy a Honda.

A few years ago I saw someone who destroked an LT1 to a 302. It reved prety good but was way short on low end torque.

A small block regularly spun to 8-9k won't live long. Your better off building a 350 or 383 with a big cam and a RPM ceiling of 6700-7000rpm. You could keep the injection and it be way more drivable.

Good luck what ever you do.

I wouldn't trust a stock block to over 8,000 rpm, those main webbings are going to say bye-bye.

I like the idea, and have done similar setups on gen I motors, we use manley tour-lite rods, custom JE pistons, callies racemaster crank, del west ti valves, etc. Like others have said, you need the best, and most expensive parts.

Send me a email if your interested in any of those parts.

I'm building a 333 CI SBC for my RX7. It's a high winding turbo engine, so things should work out good. Only reason i'm building it is to say I did

My 396" LT1 spins to 8800, of course it's not your run of the mill LT1 either.

It can be done.

Re: So, valvetrain that would handle 9,000 RPMs?

A friend of mine had a gen 1 SBC spinning 9000 rpm.

It was a 355, AFR 227cc heads, lots of compression, and ran on methanol.

Edit: See Dave's dyno pull video to why you should spin around 9000 rpm.

My friend's car with the 355, it was funny to hear him launch on his 4 speed.

Hear him initially rev up to about 4000. And you thought: "Meh, just a regular launch."

He'd step it up to around 6000 rpm. Then you though: "Yeah, thats what I'm talking about."

He'd keep going and launch around 7800 rpm. As the engine was screaming, you'd think. "Wow, thats awesome."

Then his car was crazy on the launch and leave at about a 25* angle. Speaking of which...
