smokey
smokey
ok guys, i got a 96 formula m6 with 85k miles, whenever i bring the car to a stop, it wants to smoke from the passenger side in front of the alternator/behind the radiator. its not a small amount, its ALOT of smoke, do u guys have any idea y this may be?
what kind of smoke is it? what does it smell like? it could be steam from antifreeze. You may have a rather large leak in any one of the several coolant hoses running in that general area.
jack the car up and see if there is anything leaking. You can also start the car, get it up to temp, jack it up and look.
A signature w/ ALL detailed mods would be helpful.

Check your fluid levels, if one is low, you found the system with the leak.
If it is cooling, get a cooling system pressure tester (loaner or borrow). Pressurize the system to 16 psi and look for the dripping coolant.
It could be power steering fluid if you have an oily film everywhere. I had a small leak on my rack that sprayed forward and misted everything with oil.
Brake fluid, not likely, but it could be a caliper that is leaking on a hot rotor.
Anyways, check your fluid levels.

well i checked the hoses and all are hooked up, and none appear to have a crack in them, even though when i added coolant last night a it dripped a little bit... its just too damn cold to do anything with it...
also i believe my rocker arm is hitting the valve cover, is it best to tighten them with the car running or without? its making a ticking sound like metal hitting metal, and i noticed one of my exhaust manifold bolts is backed half way out.... just goes to show that not every1 wants to take care of their car(i just bought it last night)

Any leak in your cooling system will lower the boiling point and potentially cause a major problem. I'd recommend getting a cooling system pressure tester (loan from an auto parts store like Pep Boys or buy). Pressurize the system to the psi on the cap... I think it is 16 psi.
Look for any drips. When you find them, either tighten the clamps or look for any tiny cracks.
I wouldn't recommend driving the car until the cooling system is tight.
