Is the smog pump necessary??

I'm swapping engines into a different camaro, and in the process i found that the setup for the smog system i have is a pain in the a$$. What will happen if i take the smog pump off and block the holes that go into the headers and the air intake where the lines run into them. Is this a possible thing to do or will i have troubles with the car afterwards. All O2 sensors are goin to be left on. Does anyone have any clue about this, let me know. thanks.

A mail order tune can run up to 150 bucks or more for a full PCM tune. A tuner may be able to do a specific code deletion for cheaper then a full tune though. Aside from that, removing the AIR pump won't have any ill effects on your car.

If the catyletic converter(s) are going to be left on the car you may eventually clog them w/out an air pump.
