Is It Smart To Cam Now!!

I was wandering if it would be smart for me to cam my car without aftermarket heads...

i am wanting to cam it after i do headers, y-pipe ,gears, and pullies.....how much power would i be looking at gaining with those mods plus mine that are on right now with a cam that have 1.6 RRs....

Depends on the cam, what cam do you want to run? Plenty of people have good sized cams on stock heads, I wouldnt put an x.e 248/254 in a stock headed car, but you can put a decent sized one in. Heads help out though.

A cam would be an improvement with or without heads. A nice cam is the LT4 hot cam, and it comes in a kit. Its a 218/228 on a 112 lobe seperation with 525/525 lift with 1.6 roller rockers. The kit comes with the cam, 1.6 roller rockers, springs, shims, and retainers I believe.

Also you might want to compress your signature, people around here don't like sigs longer than 5.

But before you go cam, do headers. Or do headers at the same time.

Like mentioned above, you might want to look at getting other bolt ons as well like headers and such. As far as cams, there are so many to choose from and so many variables involved it is difficult. Just research the many posts in this forum from past to present and that might help you narrow it down. I did that and ended up with the cam in my sig, and I still ponder looking for a bigger cam and finding a way to beat smog.

Oh yeah, and a big thing I wish I had more of was patience. Map things out better, save money up and get the right parts and install when the time's right.

I'm running a cam with untouched stock heads! Lots of fun.. Definitely consider going for it once you get everything else sorted.

Also, you might want to consider shortening your signature down to 5 lines

You can but I would suggest you wait til you can afford some heads or to get them ported. A good cam can only go so far. The engine needs to breath and it can't without good flow. The power lies in there buddy.

So many variables when going with a cam, The best approach is save up and go cam, heads, torque convertor to match the RPM of the cam, heads to match the lift of the cam, headers to match the flow characteristics of the heads and cam; gears to match the whole package; nothing beats research and what your ultimate plans for your vehicle are. Do a search on the site for all of the above and you can't go wrong
