SLP Spark Plug Socket?

Is it worth picking up SLP modified spark plug socket? I just picked up their 1-3/4" headers (not yet installed) and am all for spending the money if it'll make plug removal a bit easier. Here's a link: SLP # 30102

You can buy that and it does help out alot. Alot of people including myself will take a normal spark plug socket and drill out the end of it and then cut it in half. That way the porclein part of the plug will fit through the end of the socket and it is much shorter. You do have to buy a 3/4" wrench though, probably a racheting one. Thats what i use with my headers.

Just go to any auto parts store and buy a 1/2" drive 5/8" spark plug socket. Take out the rubber insert inside the socket. Cut it down as much as needed to fit with a hacksaw. Total cost $3.79 and 10 minutes of sawing.

Gotcha beat! Bought mine from an Ames discount bin for $.99!

I got a set of offset ratcheting wrenches (the straight ones provided a few less options IMHO) from Sears for $20 with what I saved over SLP.

Buy a cheap one and cut it - works the same and saves $20 and the down time.

Just please tell me you didnt buy the SLP's new...

Maybe I'll try modifying one first. I think I'll bolt the headers to the engine on the stand tonight and see how bad access really is and go from there. I assumed it'd be difficult to cut the socket myself, but it sounds like it's worth a shot.

The headers? If so, I'm guilty...got them through the recent sale at TByrne. Why, have you got a set of used ones for sale or ?

I just bought a socket from AutoZone and did about 10 minutes of work on the lathe.

Well I dont have em used - and the SLP's are a LOT better then stock - but after using a set of MAC headers (upgrading to a turbo now) - I personally FAR prefer the MAC's. IMHO SLP's stuff is good- but a little overpriced. You can get MAC's new off ebay for like $450 shipped with the Y-pipe.

Ahh, I see...I'm in CA, so I think the SLP's were the best choice. I've worked on a car with Mac's before and I totally agree, but didn't want to risk any smog issues.
