slp shorties
When i installed my Hooker lt's, i did the whole install myself. I only worked on it for about 1-2 hours at a time, so i took me several days. I would say it was probably about 10 hours total, but like i said, i had no help at all. I have no experience with installing shorties, but i'm sure it cant be too much different then doing lt's.
I just started installing mine today. It took me around 3 hours to remove the y-pipe and drivers side manifold. The y-pipe was not too bad but the manifold is a real beyotch. Be sure to soak the y-pipe bolts with penetrant oil first; they'll come off a whole lot easier. And wear mechanics gloves; they'll save your knuckles.
I'm doing plugs and wires too. I'm going to take my time so I don't get too pissed off; I figure I have 3 more months before the weather gets decent anyway.
Good Luck!

depends... if your y pipe bolts are rusted you'll have to drill and break them which takes up most of the time..
if emissions & stock ground clearance arent a big deal then sell them and get jet hot hooker long tubes and a custom y pipe (locals make em for $125-175). talking about 20 horse gain over shorties on a cammed LT1.

hi,
when i installed them,it took me 2 days from start to finish, working most of both days, real pain in the azz....the headers should go in without unbolting the motor, little pushing helps, not sure what year car you have,or if it you have the same design, but i have a dual cat car,and if you does as well, you will need to do something with your heatercore hose, you'll see what i mean,if its the same setup,it lays right on the header....have fun.

#1 Patience, beer & breaks....
A) Just the exhaust manifold removal & y-pipe...... (2-3 days) due to frozen bolts and plugs.
B) Header install.... (4 hours to one day) Have someone help you!
C) put everything back in..change plugs and wires.... (one day)
D) Double check everything! make a check list! Very important! Do a few heat cycles and re-torq every bolt....... (one day)
DONT FORGET!!
1) A/C line touching Alternator! Bend it back & ziptie it. Mine bursted while I was test driving my work...woops!!
2) Wires toucing Headers! Wires touching the inside of the Alternator pulley from the loom...zip tie them!
3) Heat shield on Heater hose
4) Dipstick back in!
5) Air Pump back in!
6) Retorqing of bolts, screws & spark plugs! Spark plugs may back out if you got scared and tightened them loosely.
TIGHTEN HEADER BOLTS BEFORE YOU PUT Y-PIPE BACK ON!!!!! DO 3-4 OPERATING TEMPS AND TIGHTEN HEADERS. IF YOU PUT Y-PIPE ON AND FORGET TO DO TIGHTEN HEADERS....GOOD LUCK ON TIGHTENING THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADER BOLTS...
Unless you have a flat non-offset wrench! Flat nonoffset wrenches may be a pain in the booty to find. Well, it was hard for me to find.
I had to fab a wrench since I put the Y-pipe on after one heat cycle and headers were still loose. I cut a flat non-offset 6 inch 12 pt 3/8ths wrench and weld another wrench just like it that I cut in half to make a long 11 inch lench wrench so i could slip it between the block and the header to tighten it...... !p.s 12 pt bolts work very good in tight places..you can grab it many short intrevals!
Total Time .....5-6 days...mine took a month cuz of waiting for parts and buying of tools and doing it all by myself along with Opti swap....and this is if you have all the right tools, parts & patience...oh...patience....is the key!
