SLP Shortie headers
Not that it is gonna be easy....but how easy is it to install SLP shortie headers.....what parts to i need to remove...and would i have to jack the motor up?
Compared to other headers LT or Mids...are these any eaier to install.....i have a shport temper so i really dont want to get frustrated....thanks

I installed them on my 97. No need to jackup the engine. Youwill need to pull the oil filter and disconnect your steering. Also you will have to control your temper, is ti not too hard to install but like anything with our cars there isn't a lot of room to manuver. My biggest headache was getting the driver's side cat back on and connected, what a pain.
Be sure not to spin the steering wheel around too - you'll break a tiny little connector inside that is a POS to take care of...
I'd say soak everything in PB Blaster, and do a plug/wire change while you're at it. It's really not bad at all - but the first time is a little annoying.
Where in NY are you located?

I just wanted to add that there is a hose on the passenger side that will touch the header and you should take the time to get it away from the header or reroute it. Just that I didnt and it almost burnt through, then a week later I had to deal with it.

are the slp shorties worth all of the troulbe. Wpuld it be better to install the macs? I've been looking at the Slp's for a while. I just don't want the headaches that come with LT's and not to mention the LT are not smog legal in CA.
I had a harder time by far installing the SLPs then the MAC's. I have the oil cooler on the filter housing and I had to disconnect it with both SLPs and MACs - but with the MACs I also jacked the engine up a tiny tiny bit and it made it slide in(it would have fit but I didnt want to scratch the coating). I prefer the SLP Y-pipe (fits higher up) but the MACs are honestly IMHO superior in plug access. It's not huge (both are way better then stock) but the MACs are just that tiny bit easier. When I put them on I was really suprised at that difference. Routing the wires around the passenger side pulleys is a POS, espicially if you have oversized wires. Otherwise I think the MACs are just a better product, and cheaper no less. Power wise I think the gains are just about the same, no big difference (if you want every HP get long tubes) but I just like the MACs better and you couldnt pay me to go back to the SLPs.
What the heck are you guys doing about the leaks??? I have been retigthening these damn things every other week since I put the motor in 3 months ago. It's pissing me the fark off. I got the SLP install package with the 12 point bolts.
Dont mac headers have 1 5/8s inch primarys where as the SLPs are 1 3/4 inch primarys... i have the Single Cat SLP Headers and i really like em, install was a little time consuming but fun none the less
I just put SLP's on my car this weekend. With a CAI, SLP headers, and a hooker catback, I did fairly well against a 02 z28 that dyno'd at 326rwhp. From 45-95, I only got pulled less than a car. For a 95 z28 w/ 89k miles it wasn't too bad.
If you have a short temper, I recommend you take out the alternator, air intake stuff, oil filter (get an old towel), o2 sensors, starter (2bolts, it's easy and hassle free), and PB Blaster the hell outta your header bolts, two steering column bolts (one on top, one on bottom), the ypipe bolts, and the bolts that go from your catalytic converter to the catback. That way you get all the stupid crap outta the way, and you can focus on only the headers in the morning.
I'm sure you know this, but start from the center and work your way to the outside...Mine leaked bad till I did that, now no leaks at all.

Oh - and my car had MUCH better low end, no loss in top end, and just generally ran better with the Corsa Exhaust over the SLP Loudmouth...
And about the tightening issue - I just got a set of header bolts and went from there. Getting the wrench onto them was annoying, but once I cranked down on them I only retightened after the first heat cycle - no leaks since.
And to the guy looking to do the swap - if you havent bought SLP's "spark changing tool" go find a simple spark plug socket with the external hex for a wrench, and cut 1.75" to 2" off the end with a hacksaw, and you're done. $2.95 and half an hour with a vice and a hacksaw, or $20 and wait for it to ship
That and a set of offset ratcheting box wrenches and I can do a plug change in no time at all.

whats this about the slp shortie leaks???...whast exactly do u call a heat cycle so i know to tighten them down to prevent further leaks?? also cant you just use some kind of lock-tight to keep the bolts from backing off??
