SLP headers -- Only option for stock Y pipe?

Is there any other shorty header out there that will bolt up to a stock, dual-cat, Y pipe?

Thanks,
Thomas.

I'd like to know as well, though I've read several negative comments towards BBK on this forum. What about legality for us smog county boys?

So do the BBKs bolt right up to a stock Y pipe, or did your friend have to swap out his Y also?

Anyone else know of any manufacturers that make bolt in shorties?

Thanks,
Thomas.

Mac makes a dual y-pipe headers and a dual cat y pipe. I'm not sure if they're in the same location as stock. So you might not pass the visual test, but you would probably pass the sniffer.

Ya, thanks for the info, but I already have a Random Technology dual cat Y pipe and am looking for all available options for headers that will bolt to it.

So far, SLP is the only manufacturer that states their headers are compatible with the factory Y pipe. Even BBKs web site doesn't state they will mate to a factory Y pipe.

Thomas.

Not 100% but I think Hooker shorties are direct bolt to the stock y pipe. I have SLP also.

I wanna know what happends when you dont pass a visual of long tubes or moved cats. So obviously you dont pass the visual but you do pass smog. So "NO" certificate right? Now what? You have to take the headers off and go back to stock manifolds? Or do you just pay a nasty fine and move on your way and still get your reg stickers...? I was just curious cuz I have never heard about anyone running into this and I would like to know what they have done to resolve?

Im just gonna get ASM headers. They dont move the cat, or they move it very little, and they get great power from what ive heard. If anyone asks, im giving them a carb number from another brand. though they cost the most, i think it would be worth it.

In my state they don't have a visual but they have a smog and sound test. I have no idea how I passed the Smog. I have a Borla...and my Cat is Gutted (didn't know at the time). THey gave me a **** load of hell I couldn't pass the sound test for Sh*t. I got pissed and Chucked foam into the Muffler....and I sprayed some of that Foam stuff into there too. I came back and I passed Tee hee the funny thing was that when I looked in my muffler all that crap I put in the pipe melted

If you have a visual test you might wanna stick with some low profile looking headers...Non coated. But most headers are 50 states legal...it's just the guys at the DMV that give people with nice cars Sh*t. They'll try to fail you for anything even if it is legal.
I once got failed for having gauges mounted on the driverside column..WTF? Oh well....Sorry to go off topic a bit...just htought I'd vent my DMV steem here.

oh yeha...another good thing to do is find some Tin or something and just mold it so it looks like a stock heat shield...that should fool them too.

looks like I'll be hanging out at some local smog centers and tune up joints to rub some elbows and shoot the breeze with so I can get passed.
