SLP header install question.
The ones I have are the ARP-400-1209.
They are 1". The header flanges on the SLPs are pretty thick. I suggest going with the 1" bolts to ensure a good install.
If you get the 3.4" you risk losing a bolt altogether if one backs out after initial install (which they might) since you should retorque a couple of times after you run'em a few times. JMHO (I believe that the SLP kit comes with the 1" also.

I work with fasteners at my work all day and believe me, a 1" header bolt is pretty long. I'm certain the bolts that came in my SLP kit are 3/4" long that's the normal standard length for header bolts no matter what header they are or for what engine. Anyways, I'm not going to get into an argument over 1/4" that's not worth worrying about.
As for the bolts backing out to the point that they would fall out, if you let them get to that point you shouldn't do a header install. The critical point after installation is making sure the bolts are tight after you run the engine with the headers in place. They will back out slightly that's why the first few days or weeks you will need to check them and tighten them if they do come loose. If you wait till the point that the bolt almost falls out you might as well redo them again as the header gskt probably won't seal even if you tighten the bolt up again. Eventually the bolts and the gskts will take a set and you probably only need to check them the odd time. I'm at the point where I don't usually check them unless I'm heading up to the track then I'll give them a quick check with the wrench and I'm good to go knowing that I won't blow a gskt because of loose bolts.
I believe even on stage 8's website they advise against installing those clips to lock down the header bolts until your headers have gone through a couple of heat cycles to allow for expansion and contraction of the parts involved so they take a set before you install those clips after you tighten down the bolts again.

I ran a search and a lot of people are running the 1" bolts, so those are the ones i went with. I just ordered the bolts and header gaskets from summit. I figure the more threads in the aluminum head the better. Hopefully they arent to long, i guess ill find out?

Quick question...(sorry to snagging the post) Was I suppose to remove that little steering knuckle bolt? I'm doing a header install and I still have the stock manifold on the driver side.
My buddy told me that I was suppose to take that steering knuckle bolt off and move the knuckle to insert my header. Is this right? I thought it was just the plastic cover but I could of sworn I heard that the knuckle is to slide out the way? Well, the bolt is off, hole is misalligned now and I cant move it now...figures? Now what, besides getting frusterated..anyway to losen that puppy up? Or was I not suppose to take that bolt off?..
help!
