Question SLP Cold-Air Induction Package?

I'm thinking of buying the SLP Cold-Air Induction Package.
I would like to know how you take the filters out to clean them?
I would think they come out the top?

Thanks,

Chris.

OK well witch ones come out through the top?
I would have thought that the SLP one would because
it has two small filters.

Thanks,

Chris.

I have the SLP CAI and I take mine out through the top. I do have to remove the entire CAI and pry loose the bracket that holds the end with the filters in place, but it only takes a minute or two with a screwdriver.

Re: SLP Cold-Air Induction Package?

you guys must have magic tricks... I used to have to squeeze the filters together to get it off through the top... my AS&M however is simplie... pop on pop off... the annoying part of the SLPS's is getting to those damn filter clamps.

I have one, its not that hard to get the filters on and off, and I just take them out the bottom. If you try to remove the whole thing and pull the filters out the top you're going to screw up the filters. It may not be the easiest to change the filters on, but it is the best looking cai

Go with the SLP induction....you won't regret it.

How often do you guys take yours out? I have only removed mine maybe 10 times--if that--had the car 3 years. I just take the elbow out when i'm working on something unless it's right there at the intake. I agree those clamps are a little tough--(actually easy compared to what i have been through), but after you do it a few times you get use to it--you make sure you align them a certain way and it's easy as pie. Now i can drop that thing out in like 5 minutes--including the splash sheild. You only clean the filters when they get dirty....i would say once a year maybe depending on how dusty and dirty it is where you live. Did you want to know exactly how to clean them, like with the kit??

You really can get yours out the top with the filters still on? you must be David Copperfield then....there is no way mine would come out the top.

Heatmaker you really sold it because it was too hard to do or did it just annoy you? Sometimes when i'm laying there under the car on the cold cement i wish it just came out the top, but after i get up and look how nice it looks and say to myself "hey at least your not pulling the heads" i smile.

It was just annoying.... for most every installaton on these cars you need to pull the intake off... after a while installing the filters and removing the intake became tedious.

Most CAI will give you about the same performance... but if you choose SLP choose it becasue you love the looks of the thing... it's a diffictult CAI system to work with sometimes with removal and installation.

Re: SLP Cold-Air Induction Package?

Ok well this is good information.
But no one has answers my sec question.
Is there any Cold-Air Induction Package that you can get the air filter through the top?
It would be a big PITA to get it through the bottom On off too many times on that plastic might brake or crack.
Just not too crazy about going through the bottom.
My stock filter picked up some sand from the road.
So I'm sure if I put a cone down there I will be cleaning it often.

Which one sould I get SLP AS&M the one on e-bay that's what like 60 bucks or the Moroso.
I also have traction control too.

Thanks,

Chris.

Re: SLP Cold-Air Induction Package?

Well it's like this... with intakes the plastic ones are more desirable perfomance wise because of thier heat managing capabilities. Moroso, Lingenfilter, K&N ETC. SLP, AS&M use metal piecies that hold heat. For the most part the filter on the above mentioned air intakes is difficult to install and remove from the top, but the ease and removal of installation is what improves a bit better from model to model. My AS&M still needs the filter installed from the bottom, you might be able to squeeze it out the top..., but hte design of the kit allows me to remove the intake system itself, becuase the filter is attached to a seperate base on the system.

It's NOT hard to do (i can do mine probably in 5 minutes), we just have a lot of winers on here

Heatmaker's right about the plastic part though......doesn't soak up heat like the metal does.

OK, I'll answer that one for you'!!!

I had an SLP CAI on my '95 Z28 and LOVED it! It took a good 0.3-0.5 off my 1/4 times depending on the air temperature and humidity... Yeah, the filters were a bit of a PITA to clean the filters, but hey, if you're a GearHead, you didn't buy a Camaro because it's the easiest thing to work on, right?

Now, on to the CAI with the easiest air filter to change? My '97 SS has Ram Air with the filter easily exposed when you open the hood! That's one hell of a CAI AND it couldn't be easier to change the filter!!!
