SLP 94-95 Headers plug access and other questions?

I am thinking of (later) of pulling my long tubes off and going with the mid-length type shorty 94-95 headers from SLP. Since my car is lowered and I drive it everyday, I want a little better ground clearance for those huge speed bumps at work that I go over everyday. And also my headers have OK plug access but number 6 plug is a biacth compared to the stock exhaust manifolds.
Also I want a set of headers that dont hinder me from taking of my starter.

Can you folks with the SLP 94-95 headers (only), please let me know:

1. How's your plug access is compared to the stock exhaust manifolds?

2. Does your headers also block you from taking of your starter?

3. And if they are not coated, is rust or heat a problem?

Thanks,
And I may have my coated LT grotyohans headers and Coated 3 inch Y-Pipe with Dual Random cats forsale soon, so I will be open to offers. Picks can be seen on my website in the sig

1. Plug access is better than stock manifolds overall but it still takes me about 1 1/2 - 2 hours to change them all. The worst one is #5 for me, it's a really tight spot, I use a cut down socket or you would need SLP's special socket to get it. Other than that the rest aren't too bad, I take the starter off to get access to #6 & #8 but once that's out they aren't too tough. Since removing my A/C #2 isn't hard at all, don't have to take out the alternator anymore to reach it.

2. They do not block the starter.

3. Mine are not coated, only very minor discoloration/slight surface rust on them but I don't drive it in the rain or snow anymore. They would probably clean up nice with just some steel wool. The car will get a little hotter sitting in traffic in the summer but not too bad, I'm sure having them coated would reduce underhood temps a good bit.

I'm thinking of switching to LT's this winter, let me know if you're interested in any sort of trade. I've got the SLP y pipe too, along with a removable Catco 3" single cat or a custom 3" ORP/cutout with a 3" vortech insert cone. I'm about 1 hour west of Philly.

I may consider a trade....
Do you have an S-Pipe to make the 94-95 headers work with your 97Z? (I think I will need an S Pipe to make it work with my kit since my car came with the daul cat exhaust).

Does your flanges need to be machined?

When were you thinking of pulling them off your car?

Do you have any pics?

Does anyone else have any comments to make about thier SLP headers and the original questions I had?

Thx,
Claude

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that. I bought a stainless steel s-pipe from Thunder Racing ($65), it's a nice mandrel bent piece with the 2 bolt flange to mount to the back of the cat and I have the same flange at the back of the Cutout/ORP to match it. My borla was dual cat as well so it was missing that bend.

Do you mean the header flanges? No they didn't need to be machined, they lined up fine. I'm thinking of switching them out this winter some time between Dec-Feb.

Here is a pic of the motor with them on, don't have any pics of the complete setup but I could get you some, let me know.

About the same as above. Onlt one plug is a real pain to get to and I also made a modified socket to get to that plug, so with the mod socket and a open end wrench I can get to the plug. Once the y pip is off the starter in not in the way. Mine are ceramic coated so I can't answer the rest.

Looks like you have a pretty good system there but unfortunately, I was hoping for a coated set, like mine currently is. I think that would be more of a fair trade. If I change my mind I will let you know but I think IF I do get rid of my long tubes for the SLPs I will probably by a new set of SLP and probably just sell the long tubes. Unless someone can trade me thier SLP Headers (94-95 ONLY) that is coated like mine.

If more folks would like to share thier experience with the 94-95 SLP headers, please do
