Slipping belt with asp underdrive balancer and overdrive alt..

I put in the gates specified belt from asp KO60605 for their balancer pulley and their overdrive alt pulley. I was running the gatorback specificed one on their site first,K)60610.I didnt seem to notice any slippage noise when running the gatorback but my volts was reading lower than I liked so added the overdrive alt pulley. That helped that problem but now the belt squeal is bad and its really loud when turn the air on and floor it.
Anyone have to use a different size belt than asp recommended.I guess maybe try a shorter one and think like to go to a gatorback again.
Also my tensioner pulley maybe is shot..going to replace it also.

I have that belt lying right here, waiting on my ASP replacement pulley. Is yours the replacement or piggy back? Honestly mine slips when I shift hard, but other than that its fine.

Re: Slipping belt with asp underdrive balancer and overdrive alt..

I have the more expensive asp underdrive balancer and the asp overdrive alt pulley. I didn't like the way the volts looked when stopped in traffic with just the underdrive balancer and didn't even try it with an underdrive alt pulley.

I didn't seem to have any noise with the gatorback but asp recommended the gates with the overdrive. I just bought a brand new tensioner and am going to try that and see if that does the trick .I get terrible slippage with ac on and maybe a little bit when shifting. Another possibility is my ac compression bearings are pooched. Be checking everything out shortly. I hope to get a gatorback that will work I think they are better belts.

Re: Slipping belt with asp underdrive balancer and overdrive alt..

Ok guys. I used a goodyear gatorback 4060600 and it worked fine. No slippage with my air on and my air is working right again. So not sure if gates are just garbage or if asp is just giving out wrong number I was given that 605 gates belt. Also goodyear makes a 605 and not sure why asp would recommend goodyear for one belt and then gates for another. In my opinion gates belts are crap and goodyear gatorbacks rule..!!

Hmm, well I have my ASP 23% Crank Replacement waiting to go on, and I am wondering if I should just sell my Gates on ebay and buy a Gatorback. I'm glad yours started working fine. Not much more annoying that a squeeling belt.

If you are going to use no underdrive or overdrive balancer the recommended gatorback the 4060610 should work. With overdrive would go to the 4060600.
With underdrive alt well you better have a six speed or doubt you would be able to charge up the battery enough. I would throw the gates in garbage.

Update for me: Installed the 23% Crank Replacement with the Gates belt and it isnt slipping at all. Runs good. Maybe you got lucky and just got a bad one

Re: Slipping belt with asp underdrive balancer and overdrive alt..

Did you use it with the overdrive or underdrive pulley or just the balancer replacement?

If you used the balancer replacement only they said to use a 4060610 gatorback belt. or equivalent would be K060610 gates it seems like. I had no problems with slippage when just had the balancer pulley on the car and was using that gatorback 4060610.I had the problems when added the overdrive balancer pulley and the recommened gates k060605. Also it didn't squeal when revved up normally ,only when I had the air conditioning on defrost or one of the air positions. Now it seems fine but did go to a smaller gatorback
then recommended. 4060600.

So try your air there guy and see if it isn't slipping. And I didn't like the car with just the underdrive balancer the volts seemed to be dropping too darn low for me to feel confortable.

Re: Slipping belt with asp underdrive balancer and overdrive alt..

I have the ASP 23% Crank Balancer Replacement Underdrive Pulley. No altenator pulleys. I used the Gates Belt recommended, but I'll have to go out and get the packaging for the part number. I would have got a Gatorback, but this belt was sold very close to where I was at the time, when I got my first ASP Pulley used. Unforntunately I had to send it back since it looked like it got in a fight with a claw hammer. The voltage does drop a bit at lights getting pretty damn close to the "red zone". I have either been putting in a Neutral or giving it a bit of gas to keep the volts in an acceptable range. I am currently waiting on a tune from Ion (Madwolf) to up the idle in gear RPM's to keep good charge. This is one reason I firmly believe in buying a ALDL cable and administering you own tunes using an unlimited email tune package from Ion (Madwolf). With each mod you can change the tune little by little to fit your needs. 3.73's, fans, rpms, etc. Anyways for the record on the install the ribbed part of the pulley goes to the engine block. I was unsure on which side went on until I called ASP. Their directions have limited detail. In the end everything worked out and the car revs more freely. Hopefully I'll gain some better mileage out of it
